A car from Cassville, MO recently made it to the big screen, the latest vehicle to enter the Hollywood vehicle icon hall of fame. Jim Craig, a Missouri businessperson, is closely connected to actor and director Clint Eastwood's latest movie, "Gran Torino."
Jim is the man who restored and later sold the movie's title vehicle, a green '72 Ford Gran Torino driven by the character Eastwood plays in the film. Jim shared in an recent interview that he learned about the car through a past employee, Ray Dotson, who saw the car and recognized its restoration potential.
"Ray had no intention of keeping it though, and he sold it to me," Craig reported. "In roughly 2000, I bought the car. I had two or three other projects going, and it sort of sat in the garage until I decided it was time to get it going."
Craig kept the vehicle for several years until he began to restore another car. Mr. Craig listed the Gran Torino on eBay classic cars, where Salt City Classic & Muscle, a Vernal, UT company, bought it in less than a week.
